Summer Course Overview

International labor migration overseas is very complex and involves multiple dimensional issues, ranging from economic to social, political, and cultural issues. For some extends, due to the very long history of migration then the issues, policy, and the insight not only in economic terms but also in broader aspects. That is why, it is very important to explore how international labor migration and its policies vary comparatively across the globe and how they reduce or introduce obstacles for different gender and demographic groups to access in and remain part of the labour force. High levels of internal and international migration are a feature of the ASEAN states, especially the large archipelagic countries of Indonesia and the Philippines. Developing from densely populated, agricultural states, high rates of rural-urban migration marked the establishment of large primate cities in the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia in the post-independence decades, and later in Vietnam towards the turn of the century.
